Many believers live in a constant state of low grade condemnation. It seems that their conscience is constantly accusing them. This does not line up with Scripture that says, “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus” (Romans 8:1).

The Bible encourages us to draw near to God with sincere heart, and full assurance that faith brings. By faith our hearts were sprinkled by the blood of Christ which cleansed us from a guilty conscience, as it says in Hebrews 10:22, “let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water.”

When you came to Christ, He cleansed you from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9), and He cleansed you from a guilty conscience too. Your job is to keep the gift you were given. You are to keep your conscience clear. This is what Paul told Timothy, “They must keep hold of the deep truths of the faith with a clear conscience” (1 Timothy 3:9).

Believers who do not understand how to keep their conscience clear seem to struggle their whole lives with the feeling that they are not right with God. It is like an internal voice that disqualifies them from spiritual blessing and intimacy with God.

God has freely given you a clear conscience. Keep it that way!
